About the Artist

Tuneshwar – Preserving Tradition, Empowering the Future Tuneshwar is a dedicated traditional artist from the Mithila region of Bihar, India, known for her work in Madhubani painting and Sikki grass art. Her journey as an artist is deeply rooted in family tradition, cultural heritage, and a strong desire to empower women through art. Tuneshwar learned the art of Madhubani painting from her grandmother, who used to paint sacred and festive motifs on the mud walls of their home during festivals, weddings, and special occasions. As a child, Tuneshwar watched her grandmother paint gods, nature, and traditional symbols with natural colours made at home. These early memories became the foundation of her artistic life. What began as learning at home slowly turned into a lifelong dedication to preserving the art of Mithila.

Themes & Inspirations

  • Madhubani Painting, – Madhubani painting is my tradition and my prayer. I learned it from my grandmother, who painted our walls during festivals. Every line tells a story of gods, nature, and village life. Through Madhubani, I keep our culture alive and share our heritage with the world.”
  • Sikki Grass – “Sikki grass art is part of my everyday life. I learned this craft from the women in my family. With my hands, I turn natural sikki grass into useful and beautiful forms. This art connects me to nature, tradition, and gives strength and livelihood to many women.”

The Spirit of Art

“The spirit of art is the soul of a community. It carries memories of ancestors, faith in tradition, and hope for the future. Every handmade piece holds emotion, effort, and a human story that connects hearts across cultures.”
